How to delete all photos of someone on a Mac

To delete every photo of one person on a Mac, you need a tool that recognises their face across the whole library, including photos synced from your iPhone through iCloud. Dup's Remove Someone groups faces on your Mac, lets you pick the person, and after you review the matches moves them to Recently Deleted or the Trash.

The facts

  • With iCloud Photos turned on, your Mac and iPhone share one library, so photos removed on the Mac are removed from the iPhone too.
  • Remove Someone looks for faces on your Mac and never uploads them. It needs a Mac with Apple silicon.
  • Removed items go to Recently Deleted in Photos, which keeps them for 30 days, or to the Trash for files in folders.

Frequently asked questions

How do I delete all photos of one person from my iPhone?

With iCloud Photos on, remove them on your Mac: Dup finds every photo of that person in the Photos library, and the removal syncs to your iPhone. Without iCloud Photos, the iPhone keeps its own copies, which have to be removed there.

Yes, for 30 days. Photos keeps removed items in Recently Deleted, and files from folders go to the Trash.

How much does Dup cost?

Dup is free to download and removes up to 250 MB of duplicates at no cost. Pro removes that limit for $29.99 a year, or $39.99 once for a lifetime license.

Try it on your own library
