Our Commitment to Privacy

Dup is built with privacy as a core principle. The app functions entirely locally on your device. Your video files, scan results, and file paths never leave your computer.

Information We Do Not Collect

Dup does not collect, access, or transmit:

• Your files, file names, or folder paths
• Scan results or duplicate detection data
• Payment information (Apple handles all transactions)
• Personal identifiers, location data, or contacts

Information We Collect Automatically

To improve the app and fix issues, Dup collects limited anonymous data:

Crash Reports (Sentry)

When the app encounters an error, a crash report may be sent automatically. These reports include device type, OS version, app version, and crash logs. They do not include any file content, file names, or personal information.

Usage Analytics (PostHog)

Anonymous usage data helps us understand how features are used and where users encounter issues. This includes interaction patterns such as which features are used and how often. No file or video content is ever included.

Apple Analytics (Optional)

If you opt in through your system settings, Apple may collect diagnostic and usage data. This is controlled entirely by Apple and your device settings.

Third-Party Services

Dup integrates with the following services:

• Apple App Store: handles subscriptions, payments, and optional analytics
• Sentry: crash reporting and error diagnostics
• PostHog: anonymous usage analytics

Neither Sentry nor PostHog receives your personal files, video content, or personally identifiable information. We do not use any advertising or user-tracking services.

Your Rights and Choices

You can:

• Opt out of Apple analytics through System Settings
• Request information about any data we hold about you
• Request deletion of your data by contacting support
• Manage your subscription where you bought it: in Dup for a purchase made on this site, or in your Apple ID settings for one made in the Mac App Store

Data Security

Because Dup processes everything locally, your files are protected by your device's own security. The limited analytics data we collect is transmitted securely and stored by our third-party service providers according to their respective security policies.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated through in-app or website notifications. Your continued use of the application after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
